Why Support Local

We encourage you to buy local wherever possible and support your local flower farmers and their families and here are a few reasons why.

1.     Reduced Carbon Footprint: If you support your local flower farmers you are saying yes to the lowest possible carbon footprint. Many of the flowers sold through places like Aldi, Coles or Woolworths have been grown overseas in places like China, Africa, or South America for example. This means that they have been flown thousands of kilometres to get here and then in many cases driven hundreds or even thousands of kilometres more to get to you. We do not believe that this environmental load can be justified given you have access to many great local flower farmers in our area.

2.     Local Economic Advantages: When you support a local small business you are also supporting the local economy rather than your hard earned money being shipped off to some corporate headquarters interstate or more often than not overseas. Local businesses also use their income to support other local businesses thus helping to create or maintain jobs and increasing the local economy.

3.     Biosecurity: Most people are unaware that in order to ship flowers into Australia from overseas, flowers need to go through a devitalisation process. This effectively means soaking the flowers in glysophate (think Round-Up). This measure aims to  help Australian flower growers as it means that our borders are at least trying to be protected from a biosecurity stance but it is questionable as to the health of these flowers for you and/or your family.
